Short answer

A Twin XL rental bed takes a 38 × 80 in fitted sheet, a flat sheet of about 66 × 102 in and 1 pillowcase per set. Plan 3 sets per bed with on-site laundry or 4 with off-site laundry. Measure mattress depth before buying. We haven't checked a Twin XL sheet set on a retailer page yet, so no product is named here.

Laundry and closet space

Stripping one Twin XL bed sends about 3.1 lb to the wash, 26% of a 12 lb load, and its spares take one shelf of a 24 in closet. None of our sample homes uses a Twin XL bed, so add it in the calculator if yours does.

Planning weights, dry: Twin XL set 1.6 lb; 12 lb per load in a 4.5 cu ft washer.

No checked Twin XL sheet set yet. We list a product only after checking it on the retailer's page, so none is named here. What to look for:
  • Fitted sheet labeled Twin XL (38 × 80 in), with the maximum mattress depth printed on the product page.
  • White or light solid fabric that handles a warm wash, so stains come out and sets mix in one load.
  • A line you can rebuy: the same set a year from now, and pillowcases sold on their own.

What to check before you buy

  • Label Twin XL sets. Folded, they look just like Twin sets, and a Twin fitted sheet pops off a Twin XL at the corners.
  • Pillows: plan 1 Standard pillow (20 × 26 in). Pillows are bought once; only the cases cycle with the sheets. Duvet: Twin XL or Twin/Twin XL, about 68 × 92 in.
  • Two Twin XL beds need 6 sets on site and 4 protectors; 4 duvet covers cover both.
  • No checked Twin XL set yet. What to look for: fitted sheet labeled Twin XL (38 × 80 in), with the maximum mattress depth printed on the product page; white or light solid fabric that handles a warm wash, so stains come out and sets mix in one load; a line you can rebuy: the same set a year from now, and pillowcases sold on their own.

Frequently asked questions

How many Twin XL sheet sets does a rental need?

3 per Twin XL bed with laundry done on site (one on the bed, one in the wash, one spare) or 4 when linens go to a laundromat or linen service.

Can I use Twin sheets on a Twin XL bed?

Only the flat sheet, if it's long enough. The fitted sheet has to be Twin XL: the mattress is 38 × 80 in, 5 in longer than a Twin.

Do I need King sheets for a split King?

On top, a King flat sheet and duvet cover span both mattresses. Underneath, use two Twin XL fitted sheets so each mattress can move on its own, and count them as Twin XL sets.

What pocket depth do Twin XL sheets need?

At least 1 in more than the mattress plus topper. Product pages list a maximum depth.
