How it works
How the stay profit calculator works
Start with what the stay brings in, take off the platform fee and every cost the stay causes, then subtract a fair share of your fixed monthly costs. Each amount is counted once, and pass-throughs like deposits and taxes the platform remits are never revenue.
- Contribution = revenue − platform fee − cleaning − laundry − restock − utilities
- Result = contribution − fixed monthly costs ÷ stays per month
A worked example
3 nights at $150 with a $60 cleaning fee, on Airbnb's 15.5% single fee, with $720 a month of fixed costs shared over 8 stays.
| Host revenue$450.00 of nights + $60.00 cleaning fee | $510.00 |
|---|---|
| Platform fee at 15.5% | −$79.05 |
| Cleaner pay | −$50.00 |
| Laundry | −$12.00 |
| Consumables restock | −$9.00 |
| Variable utilities | −$15.00 |
| Contribution | $344.95 |
| Fixed costs share ($720 ÷ 8) | −$90.00 |
| Estimated operating result | $254.95 |
This stay leaves $254.95, or $84.98 a night, after every cost it causes and its share of the month.
What it doesn't do
- It leaves out one-time purchases, income tax, loan principal, depreciation and your own time on purpose.
- It looks at one stay, not a month or a year.
- It's an estimate for planning, not tax advice.

Questions hosts ask
Is the cleaning fee income?
Yes. The cleaning fee you collect is revenue, and what you pay your cleaner is a separate cost. Counting both keeps the math honest.
Why share out fixed costs per stay?
Rent, insurance and internet don't change with one booking, but every stay has to help pay them. Dividing the month's fixed costs by your stays shows whether a booking really pays its way.
What fee rate should I use?
The one on your payout report. Airbnb says most hosts on the single fee pay 15.5% (Airbnb's service fees page (opens in a new tab), checked Oct 30, 2026).
How is this different from the break-even calculator?
This one checks a single booking. The break-even rate calculator works backward from your month to the lowest nightly rate.
