When to send it

Reply as soon as the request comes in, ideally the same day. Check your calendar and your cleaner's schedule before you say yes, because an extension can move or cancel a turnover. If the stay has already ended, it can't be extended, and the guest will need to make a new booking instead.

Tips

  • Keep the extension on the platform. Airbnb's How to alter a reservation (opens in a new tab) article tells guests to submit a change request, which takes effect if the host accepts, and the guest is charged or refunded as needed.
  • Airbnb's Extend your stay (opens in a new tab) article says only the person who made the original reservation can submit a change request or accept one proposed by the host, so reply to the booker if someone else in the group asks.
  • Don't take cash or an outside payment for extra nights. Airbnb's Pricing and payment transparency (opens in a new tab) policy keeps payments on the platform, and its Resolution Center (opens in a new tab) article says reservation changes must go through the Change reservation tool.
  • If the nights aren't free, say so quickly and kindly, and offer any nights that are. Don't hold dates you can't promise.
  • Tell your cleaner as soon as the change is accepted, so nobody arrives for a turnover while the guest is still there.
